How Amazon fees work

Amazon sellers pay a selling plan fee, a referral fee on each sale, and fulfillment fees if they use FBA:

Pricing tip

Put your ad spend in the "Ads cost per unit" box. Many Amazon products look profitable until advertising is counted.

Worked example

On a sale where you receive $24.99, Amazon fees come to $7.98 (31.9% of the sale). After $7.40 in product, shipping and packaging costs, you keep $9.61, a 38% margin. These are the calculator's starting numbers, so you can change any of them above.

Common questions

What percentage does Amazon take?

Usually 15% referral fee, plus the FBA fee if Amazon ships for you. With FBA, total fees often land between 30% and 40% of the price on lower-priced items.

Is the Professional plan worth it?

If you sell more than about 40 units a month, the $39.99 Professional plan costs less than the $0.99 per item Individual fee.
