How eBay fees work
eBay's main charge is the final value fee, taken when your item sells. Current US rates:
- Final value fee: 13.6% for most categories on the first $7,500 of the order, then 2.35% above that. It is charged on the item, shipping and sales tax.
- Per-order fee: $0.30 on orders of $10 or less, $0.40 on orders over $10.
- Insertion fees: your first 250 listings each month are free, then $0.35 each.
- International fee: 1.65% when the buyer is outside the US.
- Promoted Listings: the ad rate you choose, charged only when the promoted listing leads to the sale.
Pricing tip
Offering free shipping does not avoid fees. eBay charges the same percentage either way, so build your real shipping cost into the price.

On a sale where you receive $46.00, eBay fees come to $6.66 (14.5% of the sale). After $11.50 in product, shipping and packaging costs, you keep $27.84, a 61% margin. These are the calculator's starting numbers, so you can change any of them above.
